What is up everyone? Welcome back to my channel. In today’s video, I want to share with you some rookie mistakes that you might be making that’s causing Instagram to lower your reach or even ban you. So if you want to learn more then keep on watching. Now the first mistake that a lot of people don’t realize that they even make is using banned hashtags. Now did you know that there’s a whole list of hashtags that are actually banned by Instagram and if you are using it, your post will never show up under those hashtags? Meaning, that if you are using hashtags to boost your posts, then you’re basically wasting a lot of space if you use the wrong ones.
Not only this, if you aren’t rotating your hashtags, which is something that I talk about in this video right here and you’re repeating the same banned hashtags over and over again, that’s going to increase the chances of Instagram actually banning your account because you are using banned hashtags. Now, some of you guys might be saying to yourself, “Oh, I’m definitely not using banned hashtags. I don’t use spammy hashtags like #LIKE4LIKE or #FOLLOW4FOLLOW.” But my friend, I need to tell you that there are a lot of banned hashtags that you would not even expect to be banned. Let me give you some examples, #fitnessgirls is banned, #valentinesday is banned, #alone is banned, and also #beautyblogger is banned as well.
So you will know that there’s a lot of hashtags out there that you would not even realize are actually banned until you look into it. So my friend, I highly recommend that you go on Google and literally search up banned Instagram hashtags and you’re going to find a whole list of hashtags that actually are not allowed on Instagram. Now, in case you didn’t get a chance to look at the screenshots that I just showed, let me just zoom in right here so that you can really see what happens when you use a banned hashtag. The result is nothing happens. Your posts will literally not show up. Meaning, you’re dramatically decreasing your reach if you’re wasting your space on your captions, putting hashtags that aren’t even going to help you gain more reach.
Not only this, like I said earlier, if you’re continuously using these banned hashtags, Instagram will punish you in some sort of way because at the end of the day, these are hashtags that you should not be using. Now, the second rookie mistake that you can make is using third party apps that are not approved by Instagram or Facebook. Now, ever since I posted this video right here where I talk about how I schedule all of my content in one go using a third party app called Later, I’ve gotten so many comments, so many DMs of people asking me, “Wait, I thought using third party apps is going to hurt my account because Instagram doesn’t allow third party apps.” Well, my friend, what you can do is you can actually go on this link right here.
There’s actually select apps that you can use that are actually approved by Facebook and therefore approved by Instagram. Because remember Facebook owns Instagram. So let me just share my screen and show you exactly what I’m talking about. What’s up guys? So here you are where you can actually look at Facebook’s business partner directory. Now if you’re ever hesitant on the app that you want to use, you can always search it in the search bar.
So for instance, I use Later a lot for my scheduling. When I put in later in the search bar and I click on Later, it really shows here that it is actually approved by Facebook and it has a badge. Not only this if you want to go back to directory, a lot of you guys are stressing out about the scheduling apps that you use, well that falls under community management. So what you want to do is you want to click on community management and what you’re going to see is all of the apps that are indeed approved by Facebook. So you’ll see a lot like Sprout Social, Tailwind, Hootsuite I believe is on here as well as well as Later. There’s Buffers, Iconosquare. So if you’re ever hesitant on what app you can use or you can’t use, definitely check out this directory right here.
As you can see, Later is here as well. So hope this help guys and we’ll go back to the video. So as you can see, yes it is true that Instagram does not like you using third party apps, but as long as it’s approved by Facebook or Instagram, you’re good to go. Which leads me to my third mistake that I see so many people making and it’s so unfortunate and that is using bots. Using third party apps is indeed a breach in Instagram’s community guidelines, but specifically I’m going to put it right here, using bots or anything automated to inauthentically collect likes, followers and all these things is also a breach in the community guidelines. This is very clear that Instagram is really cracking down on this behavior. So if you’re someone who wants to just grow a vanity metric, don’t do it. Especially if you’re building your business on social media. It is totally not worth risking your account. Even in November, 2018 Instagram started removing all of the spam accounts and therefore a bunch of people lost a lot of followers because a lot of people bought followers or they did follow and follow, which then naturally attracts a lot of these fake accounts.
Instagram is really cracking down on this. So as you can see from these screenshots right here, a bunch of people every single day are still losing a lot of followers because Instagram is removing all of these fake accounts. Not only this, you have to realize that Instagram very much so like any other social media platform is ever changing. You know, who knows? Maybe in five years, two years, three years, Instagram maybe will just ban all the accounts that I’ve ever had any inauthentic activity happening. You never know how Instagram might punish you. So therefore, if you are someone who is thinking of doing it, I’m telling you right now, do not do it. Now, the next rookie mistake that’s compromising your account is posting content that breaks community guidelines. Now, I’m just going to be a mind reader here, but I have a feeling that 80% of the people who watch this video probably have never read Instagram’s community guidelines. Well, luckily for you, you stumbled upon this video. So let me just give you a really clear rundown on some of the pieces of content that actually is banned from Instagram. One of the first ones is nudity.
Now a lot of you are probably like, “Oh, obviously nudity.” But honestly, you’ll never know. There are some photographers who do or some photographers who do sexier shots or even cosplay people who do photo shoots that are a little bit more revealing. You never know if Instagram is going to count that as full nudity. So that’s why you need to be careful about the stuff that you’re posting online because you risk a chance of Instagram either limiting your reach on those photos or removing them all together. Now on the topic of nudity, another thing that also kind of counts is children who are also half nude. Now, this isn’t for any of you guys who want to be creepy, but what I mean is for you moms out there or you dads out there, for a lot of you guys, some of you guys are posting pictures of your children that don’t have a shirt on and that’s totally fine.
But in Instagram’s books, that also counts as nudity. So you’ve got to be careful because those pictures can limit your reach as well, even if they’re innocent. Now on top of nudity, eating disorders is also a content topic that also might limit your reach as well. So for those of you who have niches that are surrounding body image or eating disorders or Anorexia, these are things that you also want to be careful of when you’re posting content because within Instagram’s community guidelines, these are things that are technically banned. Not only this, self harm, anything that’s related to cutting or suicide, naturally these topics are also banned as well. So for you coaches out there who specialize in these things, you got to also be careful about what you’re posting. Not only this, vandalism, drugs, drugs is a huge one, even with YouTube. YouTube also at one point cracked down on a bunch of accounts that were promoting marijuana or pot, even though for a lot of countries, pot is legal.
Now these are things that you definitely want to look into the community guidelines yourself about, but basically what I’m trying to tell you guys is that the type of content that you do can limit your reach. Therefore you really want to do your research and be very careful of the type of content or the niches that you choose when you’re going on Instagram. So as you can see, based on this video already, there are little things that you might be doing that you don’t even realize that’s limiting your reach. So definitely do your due diligence and make sure that you’re doing the right thing. Reading Instagram’s community guidelines and also doing your own research just to make sure you’re doing things that won’t get you banned or limit your reach. That being said, if you want to learn more about Instagram, YouTube, social media, business, life in general, just check out these two videos that I have right here as well.
As always, guys, I hope you guys have a great day, a great week, and a great life, and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye guys. .
